Nothing to Discuss

Breaking from 20 years of Intimate Partner Violence

by Joanne E. Betzler

On Friday September 25, 2026, my wife and I were invited to attend a book launch for Joanne Betzler’s Nothing to Discuss, breaking from 20 years of intimate partner violence, at the Anvil Theatre in New Westminster.

As intimate partner violence has recently become a new tort and I am always interest in trying to learn to serve my client’s better, I took the opportunity and got a babysitter! Beside who doesn’t love a night out with no kids once in a while.

While the evening was lovely, including wonderful people, signature cocktails, and live music, the discussion between author Joanne Betzler and self publishing advocate Megan Williams, was the clear highlight. Joanne expressed that the purpose of the book was to amplify the discussion on intimate partner violence and taking her lead, I am making this post to further that agenda. She read passionately about an interaction where he neighbour witnessed her being knocked out, the struggles to hide bruises, and the internal struggle to leave sparked by the passing of her sister.

As if to cap off the night, Ms. Williams notified the audience just as we were leaving that the book, Nothing to Discuss, was already trending on Amazon.

I will leave a book review until I have fully finished the book but Joanne’s writing style and lived experience brings a knowing passion to a topic that is deserving of our attention. I encourage anyone reading this to help understand intimate partner violence by purchasing a copy of Nothing to Discuss which can be obtained here.
